Guadalupe Torch Run
Runners will take the Blessed Fire to churches named in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Santa Barbara, Ventura and Los Angeles counties, culminating at the Annual Guadalupe Procession and Mass in East Los Angeles on Dec. 7
The Guadalupe Torch Run (Carrera Antorcha Guadalupana) in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles will begin tomorrow November 15 in Santa Barbara County. Runners will carry the Guadalupe Torch, starting at 6 p.m., from St. John Newman Church in Santa Maria, CA to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Guadalupe, CA for a welcoming ceremony at 7 p.m.
This is the first time the Los Angeles Archdiocese has been part of the annual Guadalupe Torch Run. The Run has brought a message of hope and unity to immigrants in the U.S. since 2002. For six years, runners representing Mexico’s migrant community have brought the blessed fire from the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City to New York City. This year, the 2008 Guadalupe Committee of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles sent a delegation to receive the blessed fire when the Guadalupe Torch crossed the U.S.-Mexico Border at Brownsville, TX, and brought it back to Los Angeles as part of the Archdiocesan celebration in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
“We are honored to receive the blessed fire and share it with the people of Los Angeles as part of our Archdiocesan celebration in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe,” said Msgr. John Moretta, Pastor at Resurrection Church and Chair of the 2008 Guadalupe Committee. “The Guadalupe Torch will carry the theme and message of this year’s Guadalupe celebration, ‘Mother Ray of Hope,’ directly to the people of the Archdiocese.”
Catholic faithful will run the Torch to the Our Lady of Guadalupe named churches in Santa Barbara, Ventura and Los Angeles counties.
